Celebrating Women’s History Month | Edible Arrangements®

It’s March, and you know what that means – it’s time to celebrate Women’s History Month! That’s right, a whole month dedicated to celebrating the amazing women who have made history and continue to inspire us all. From those who fought for women’s rights, to trailblazers who shattered glass ceilings, women have played an integral role in shaping the world we live in today. And, there are many women to celebrate this month here at Edible Arrangements®, from our franchisees and team members to the women-owned businesses who are a part of making our Curated Collabs program so great (and incredibly delicious). But first, let’s take a trip through time to the origins of Women’s History Month and how we have come to celebrate it today.
The Origins of Women’s History Month
While women have been doing incredible things since the dawn of time, their dedicated celebration is fairly new. The origins of Women’s History Month date back to the early 1900s, when the anniversary of 15,000 women partaking in a New York City march was declared National Women’s Day in the US. And eventually, the celebration transitioned into a week-long celebration in 1980 after being successfully lobbied by the National Women’s History Project. But, as it turns out, one day, or even one week simply wasn’t enough to honor all the amazing women who have shaped our world. So, in 1987, Congress declared the entire month of March as Women’s History Month. That’s right, a whole month to celebrate the incredible contributions that women have made throughout history! And, from there, the celebration grew and evolved until it became the Women’s History Month we know and love today.

Women-Owned Business Spotlights
Mo’s Bundt Cakes
Encouraged by her colleagues to follow her passion, Mariolga Calderon, founder of Mo’s Bundt Cakes, left her corporate job and started a local bakery. Despite starting during a time of global uncertainty, the bakery experienced significant success in its early days. Embodying what it means to be a powerful and inspiring woman, Mariolga and her company are also dedicated to giving back to the community. She serves on the board of directors for the Special Olympics, and the bakery has been active in the Miami community since its inception, donating cakes to various non-profit organizations.
And, in addition to their inspiring origins as a women-owned business, Mo’s Bundt Cakes delivers a truly delicious and unique product. They are committed to quality and offer a unique packaging approach, with icing included in a separate bottle for drizzling over the cake for an always-fresh taste. Plus, they are packaged in a beautiful, branded box, ideal for gifting for any occasion. Overall, Mo’s Bundt Cakes is a shining example of a successful woman-owned business that prioritizes quality, sustainability, and community involvement. With her passion for baking and commitment to excellence, Mariolga Calderon has created a special company that continues to inspire both us and our customers each and every day.
Black Bow Sweets
Lisa Wojcik, the founder of Black Bow Sweets, was inspired by her mother’s treasured recipe for candied pecans, a homemade confection that was a staple of their family’s holiday traditions. These candied pecans were highly sought after by family, friends, and coworkers alike. This led to the creation of Black Bow Sweets, named in honor of the timeless and classic elegance of the black bow tie.
Black Bow Sweets uses locally sourced candied nuts from family farms in California and has expanded its offerings to include a variety of sophisticated and irresistible flavors. And, as a recent cancer survivor, Lisa Wojcik is committed to giving back to organizations that support cancer fighters, survivors, and caregivers. Black Bow Sweets has donated to various organizations such as Imerman Angels, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, and the American Cancer Society. With her passion for carrying on her family’s recipes and giving back to charities close to her heart, Lisa Wojcik has created an incredible company that we have been honored to have the opportunity to partner with.
Noteworthy Chocolates
In 2016, Jennifer and Michael launched Noteworthy Chocolates after daring to dream big and consider the endless “what ifs” that often fuel innovative companies. After spending some time learning at Hackerspace in Danbury, CT, the couple raised enough funds through Kickstarter to build the world’s first chocolate engraving laser lab, all in a single year. They then began the journey of providing a range of engraved chocolate gifts for various occasions, such as weddings, corporate gift-giving, Valentine’s Day, thank-you gifts, anniversary gifts, and more.
Noteworthy Chocolates creates unique gifts using chocolate that is kosher, gluten-free, and free of soy, corn, tree nuts, and peanuts, catering to a variety of dietary needs and preferences. Moreover, their dark chocolate is vegan and dairy-free, ensuring that everyone can savor a delectable custom-engraved chocolate treat. The company offers heartfelt messages engraved on chocolate cards or medallions, making it an exceptional gift that has brought joy to many of our Curated Collabs customers. This woman-owned business is an inspiring example of how dreaming big and contemplating the “what ifs” of life can fuel something truly incredible.
So, to all the women out there, let’s make this Women’s History Month one for the books! Let’s celebrate our strength, our resilience, and our unbreakable spirit. When women come together and dream big, there’s nothing we can’t achieve.
